What we collect
- Server logs: IP address, page requested, time, browser. Kept 30 days for security and debugging.
- Votes: a one-way hash of your session and IP address, so one vote counts once. It can't be turned back into you.
- Correction reports: your message and, if you gave one, your email. Kept until resolved, then up to 180 days.
- Contact messages: name, email, message. Kept as long as the conversation needs.
- AI draft requests: the plant name you asked for and the same one-way hash used for votes. Deleted after 30 days unless an editor turns the draft into a guide.
Kept on your device only
- Bookmarks: the guides you save with the heart, in your browser's local storage.
- Climate choice: a
climatecookie, only if you pick one on the calendar. - Your location: “Use my location” on the calendar reads a rough latitude in your browser to suggest a climate. It is never sent to us.
We never see any of these, and clearing your browser removes them.
What we don't do
No advertising, no analytics or tracking cookies, and no selling or sharing of your data. AI providers receive plant names and source text, never anything about you. See Cookies for every cookie the site sets.
Your rights
You can ask to see, correct or delete anything we hold about you. Contact us with the reason “Privacy”.
