About growing.guide

Practical growing information that is easy to find, compare and use, with the sources and review dates on every page.

Last updated 27 September 2026

What we cover

Vegetables, fruit, herbs, flowers and houseplants, plus the ways to grow them (containers, raised beds, indoors, greenhouses, hydroponics) and the problems that come with them.

Every plant gets one canonical guide: light, soil, water, timing, planting, care, problems and harvest, in the same order on every page, so you always know where to look. Supporting pages go deeper on a growing space, a technique or a problem, and always link back to the plant.

How the site is organised

  • Guides: one page per plant, from choosing a variety to storing the harvest.
  • What to grow: lists by goal, by use and by conditions, each with a comparison table.
  • How to grow: the techniques every guide relies on, in the order the season asks for them.
  • Where to grow: what does well in each space, and what to avoid.
  • Problems: work back from what you see to the cause and the fix.
  • Calendar: what to sow, plant out and harvest each month, shifted for your climate.

How a guide is built

  1. Structured facts first. Light, soil, pH, temperature, timing, spacing and container needs are stored as data, checked against sources, and reused across the guide, the calendar and every list the plant appears in. Change a fact once and every page that uses it changes with it.
  2. Research. Sources are ranked: horticultural institutions and university extension services first, commercial blogs last. See Sources and review method.
  3. Drafting. Most drafts start with AI working from the facts and the research notes. See How we use AI.
  4. Checking. An editor checks every section against the sources, marks it, and only then can the page be published.
  5. Review dates. Each page shows when it was last reviewed. Guides are re-checked at least yearly.

What growing.guide is not

  • Not personalised agricultural advice. Your soil, climate and variety change the answer.
  • Not a substitute for a product label or local regulations. Labels and law take precedence for any pesticide or fertiliser.
  • Not a shop. We don't sell anything, run adverts, or take payment to recommend a product.
  • Not a guarantee of a harvest.

Corrections and contact

Found a mistake? Use “Report a correction” at the bottom of any page, or contact us. Reports go straight to the person who maintains the guide, and a material fix is noted on the page.

About the builder

growing.guide is designed, built and maintained by Kyrylo Butskyi, a full-stack developer focused on data-heavy products: Laravel back ends, queue-driven pipelines, interactive front ends and Docker-based deployment.

The site stores plant facts as structured data and reuses them across guides, calendars and comparison lists, runs an AI drafting pipeline with source-checked editorial review, and serves fast, accessible pages with full-text search. It is the kind of end-to-end system I build for research and education tools.
